Gopher Football

This weekend was the grand opening of the new Gopher Stadium. That is the football team for the University of Minnesota. Season ticket holders (such as us) were invited to a special scrimmage being held so that you could sit in your new seats and check out the new stadium. Now, you might be scratching your head and wondering ~ why would Tom and Jami have season tickets to U of M football? Neither of them went there or have a child who did and they don't live in MN. Trust me, I'm still working on the answer. Here is the other crazy part of the story. The other two couples who have seats with us, didn't go there or have children who went there. However, they do live there. I just know a while back we were out having a few after a Vikings game and the guys started talking. Next thing, we are all season ticket holders ~ go figure. I'm not sure if it is the tailgating, beer, cheerleaders, beer, grilling, beer, the social craziness, beer or the game and more beer but the men love it. They all turn into 17 year old guys. It seems to be the place that levels the age of all men. Their little piece of paradise on black top. They run around throwing footballs and bean bags, shouting to one another and neighboring tailgaters while their music is blasting. The antics are too numerous to mention and must be witnessed to believe. All around America this is going on. You see it in the parking lots of all college and pro football games. It is the Peter Pan syndrome come to life. I for one embrace it as a breath of fresh air. I think we all need to embrace it and learn from it. Most men understand on a level deep in their soul (and they don't even know it) how important it is to never truly give up the playful child inside. So, no ~ I'm still not sure what the answer is as to why we hold season tickets to a college team in another state that neither of us have any link to but I would bet it has something to do with Peter Pan. (:
